Life Stuff: Recycling Gone Mad

OK, so who doesn't recycle now, right? It's a good thing. Sometimes I wonder, however, if some of the stuff we keep recycling eventually becomes "unusable trash." I mean, how many forms can plastic or paper take until it just disintegrates? Don't these items still eventually become just unusable trash?

In this age of "never throwing things away," it is funny that when it comes to relationships, we hold on way too long; we "recycle." We go through a break up and call our Ex; We continue hanging out with old friends even though we know they aren't the best thing for us. We even make this mistake in our work: thinking we can do things the same way and get a different result if we just stay at it. Hey sometimes you just need a new plan, a fresh start...

It is odd how we put our faith in situations that have failed us miserably in every way. Maybe we remain because these situations (once tolerated) eventually become so familiar & comfortable, we accept them as normal, even good. Could it be we are more concerned in building relationships that are "comfortable" than relationships that are positive, healthy, and healing to us? Sometimes choosing what is good or best for ourselves, means knowing when to pull the plug. Transforming and growing is not without pain; It is uncomfortable & unfamiliar territory. But it is also the only way to become all the great things we were made to be. So keep recycling your plastic my friends, but don't be afraid to throw some things away for good. You'll be glad you did.

Life Stuff: Night Light

I was driving a few nights ago and there was this huge thunderstorm that kicked in. You know when a storm is coming how you always see the lightening first? It was so dark; late at night when this happened. The sky was totally black. But when the lightening flashed, I could see the whole sky. It almost felt like I was getting to see something I wasn't supposed to; what the night sky really looks like if we could only see it. It reminded me of something: We get these moments sometimes where everything is clear for second. More often than not, we stumble thru our days with no clarity, no insight. A bright light would certainly help... showing me what I can't see, what is covered by darkness.

I think maybe that's what David meant when he writes in Psalm 139:12 : "even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day" I pray we will all be given clarity this week... that even those of us who are going thru a dark period of life will find light, hope, and truth.
